Local festivals in La Unión

The Virgen del Rosario patronal festivities are usually celebrated during the first half of October, with their principal day on the 7th. The procession travels through the streets accompanied by bands, while Plaza Joaquín Costa and the area around the former Public Market host peñas, concerts, community meals, float parades and festive activities organised with the Town Council, clubs and local residents.

Patronal traditions

Costume and float parades, vermouth dances, soapbox races and the paella competition are among the most deeply rooted events. The observances on 12 October include the coloured-paper float parade, and the cycle ends with a fireworks display.

Other celebrations: Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas

Since 1961, La Unión has held the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas in summer at the former Public Market. Galas and competitions in flamenco song, guitar, dance and instruments keep alive the heritage of the taranta, minera, cartagenera and other styles connected with the Sierra Minera.
