Local festivals in Alguazas
The San Onofre and San Antonio patronal festivities are usually celebrated over several days in June, with their main dates on the 12th and 13th. The town-centre streets host peñas, music, cultural and sporting events, fireworks, Mass and processions; after the San Antonio procession, dancing around the image preserves one of the town's most distinctive customs.
Local organisation and participation
The Town Council, festival committee, peñas, associations, businesses and residents organise a celebration that brings generations together. San Onofre parish church and the town's squares form the main venues for religious and community events dedicated to both saints.
Other celebrations: Barrio del Carmen and Santa Bárbara
In July, Barrio del Carmen honours the Virgen del Carmen for more than a week with the presentation of the festival majas, tournaments, a foam party, charamita procession, parade of floats, paella in Plaza Paco Serna, Mass and a procession from the chapel. The Santa Bárbara countryside district also maintains its night pilgrimage, traditional games, floats, huertana Mass and procession with local residents taking part.
