Local festivals in San Martín de la Vega

The San Marcos patronal festivities are usually celebrated over several days in late April. Processions carry the saint between his chapel and the church, and a pilgrimage later brings residents back to the chapel grounds. Local devotion is documented from a vow made in 1483 in response to a locust plague.

Communal stews, local clubs and bull runs

The Guisos de San Marcos bring local clubs together to prepare rabbit with potatoes and share a community food gathering in the streets. Morning bull runs and other bull-related events preserve a tradition connected with the former agricultural routine and the early harvesting of asparagus.

Other celebrations

San Cristóbal is celebrated on the weekend nearest 10 July with Mass and processions between his chapel and the parish church. On 8 September, the Nativity of Our Lady includes Mass and a procession from the San Marcos chapel to the church, with the parish, brotherhoods and residents participating.
