Local festivals in Moralzarzal
The Patronal Festivities, known as the Sierra's Great Week, are usually celebrated in late September in honour of the Virgen del Rosario and San Miguel Arcángel. Mass, the procession and the opening address begin several days of community gatherings around Plaza de la Constitución, El Raso park and the bullring.
Bull runs and local tradition
The bull runs are a centuries-old hallmark of the festivities. Steers are led by bell oxen along the route to the covered bullring, preserving the memory of the former events in which carts enclosed the town square. Peñas, residents and visitors also share communal meals, music and cultural activities.
Other celebrations: Luminaria, Matanza and the May Cross
The Luminaria brings the town together every 19 January around a large bonfire, with hot chocolate, churros and cakes. In early February, the Matanza Tradicional recalls the trades and foods associated with pig slaughter, while the May Cross brings a countryside pilgrimage, community gathering and activities to La Tejera park on 3 May.
