Local festivals in Vilanova de Arousa

The Festa do Mexillón e o Berberecho is usually celebrated for nearly a week in August. It was founded in 1994 by the A Pastoriza Fishermen's Guild to promote two essential products from the estuary. Plaza de O Castro, Jardín Umbrío, Parque de O Cabo, Avenida do Recheo and the maritime station host tastings, music, local trade and family activities.

Virgen del Carmen and maritime tradition

The food festival coincides with events dedicated to the Virgen del Carmen, patron of seafarers. The maritime procession leaves from the area around the passenger terminal and carries the image across the estuary, accompanied by boats, maritime families and residents, bringing devotion together with the memory of fishing and shellfish work.

Other celebrations: patronal festivals and parish pilgrimages

San Cipriano de Vilanova honours A Pastoriza on 15 September and San Cibrán the following day. The municipality also marks Corpus Christi with flower carpets, the Encarnación and San Isidro in Caleiro, San Miguel dos Fabóns and San Roque do Monte in Deiro, San Xoán and the Santa Marta and San Simón pilgrimages in Baión, as well as celebrations in András and Tremoedo.
