Local festivals in Bueu
Festas do Carme are usually celebrated for about five days around 16 July and highlight the town's maritime history. San Martiño parish church, the carpeted streets, fish market, harbour and estuary host sung mass, land and sea processions, traditional dance, music and fireworks over the water. The Town Council, parish, fishers' guild, municipal band, choirs, cultural groups, carpet makers, seafarers and families take part.
Festa das Alfombras Florais do Corpus
Over two days in May or June, depending on the liturgical calendar, associations and residents design and make carpets from flowers and natural materials along the main streets of the town centre. The procession after mass follows the carpets, a tradition documented since the seventeenth century, revitalised by local groups and recognised as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia.
Other celebrations: Millo Corvo and San Martiño
In spring, the village of Meiro devotes a weekend to Festa do Millo Corvo, created in 1998 to recover black maize and its growing cycle. Asociación Cultural Meiro, producers and residents organise traditional milling, tastings, workshops, talks, routes, music and family activities. On 11 November, San Martiño honours Bueu's patron with religious events and popular gatherings.
