Local festivals in Ourense

Ourense's year links Entroido, Os Maios, the June Festas Maiores and San Martiño, the city's patron saint and the focus of its autumn magostos.

Usual celebration

Entroido lasts for a week from Xoves de Comadres to Enterro da Sardiña, bringing masks, brass bands, comparsas and floats to the streets of the city centre. On 11 November, San Martiño gathers families, neighbourhood associations and visitors around bonfires, chestnuts and seasonal food, especially on Montealegre and at the urban magostos organised with the City Council.

Local public holidays in 2026

The resolution published by the Xunta de Galicia sets 17 February, Shrove Tuesday, and 11 November, San Martiño, as Ourense's local public holidays. Both are paid, non-recoverable non-working days.

Other events

Os Maios fill the streets on the first Sunday in May with plant-covered structures and satirical verses; in June, the Festas Maiores last for just over a week and include concerts, the Batalla de Flores parade and fireworks over the River Miño.
