The Festas do Cristo are the main patronal festivities in O Barco de Valdeorras, combining a procession, music, sport, community activities and fireworks in September. O Malecón, Plaza Mayor, Campo da Festa and the town streets host much of the programme.
Usual celebration
Cristo day features a service and procession preceded by the Calantornias and Cabezudos. The surrounding programme includes the proclamation and opening rocket, Festa das Pandillas, live music, sporting events and children's activities. The council, associations, clubs, cultural groups and residents take part in its organisation.
Other events
The Festa do Botelo, recognised as being of Galician Tourist Interest, brings its opening speech and communal meal to Teatro Lauro Olmo and the Calabagueiros sports hall in January. In summer, SilFest takes place at the Malecón river beach.
