Local festivals in Teo
The Feira do San Martiño de Francos is usually celebrated every 11 November as a one-day event in the Francos oak grove, in the parish of Calo. Trading in horses, mules and donkeys takes place alongside craft stalls and octopus tasting, bringing dealers, residents and visitors from the Compostela area together. Documented since 1557, the fair is an economic, cultural and social landmark for the municipality.
Xenerais da Ulla Carnival
During the Carnival season, several Teo parishes take part in the rural Xenerais da Ulla celebrations. Groups travel through the settlements on horseback in colourful uniforms and perform paired verbal contests known as atranques or altos. In the parish of Reis, the Demo also appears as a distinctive figure in the local tradition.
Other celebrations: parish festivals and pilgrimages
The thirteen parishes preserve festivals dedicated to their patron saints and shrines. Neighbourhood committees organise processions, evening dances, communal meals and food competitions, maintaining a calendar spread across the municipality's settlements. Pilgrimage destinations include the Santa Eufemia chapel and the Santa María da Cabeza sanctuary.
