Local festivals in Coria
San Juan is Coria's foremost celebration. It runs from 23 to 29 June each year and turns the walled old town into a festival arena where bulls, peñas and local participation sustain a tradition recognised as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Usual celebration
The release of bulls through the streets inside the walls, the encierros and the horseback transfer of oxen are hallmarks of the Sanjuanes. 24 June, the feast of Saint John the Baptist, is the central day; the Town Council organises the week with the San Juan peñas, runners, emergency services and many volunteers, alongside religious events, music, culture and sport.
Other celebrations
The feast of the Virgin of Argeme completes the local calendar on 11 May alongside the San Juan celebrations.
