Local festivals in Mérida

Mérida's festival calendar centres on the September Fair, the Emerita Lvdica historical re-enactment and the feast of Santa Eulalia, the city's patron.

Usual celebration

The fair usually fills several days in the first week of September at the Recinto Ferial and other city venues. Stalls run by local groups and associations, fairground rides, music, food, sport and fireworks bring together the City Council, community organisations, families and visitors.

Programme for 2026

The 2026 Fair and Festivals run from 1 to 6 September, lasting six days. The Local Council of Older People performs the switch-on at 9.30 pm on 1 September; Children's Day follows on the 2nd; DePol and Camela appear at Acueducto de los Milagros on the 2nd and 3rd, and fireworks close the edition at midnight on the 6th.

Local public holidays in 2026

The Local Government Board approved 21 May for Emerita Lvdica and 10 December for Santa Eulalia. These two local non-working days do not make every day of the fair or the full historical re-enactment period a public holiday.

Other events

Emerita Lvdica recreates the Roman city with the participation of historical re-enactment associations; Santa Eulalia keeps 10 December as a fixed date in the local calendar.
