Local festivals in Almendralejo

Las Candelas, San Marcos and the Piedad and Vendimia festivities express Almendralejo's festive identity. Fire and pantarujas shape the winter celebration, the pilgrimage marks spring, and wine, patronal devotion and the fair define the August programme.

Usual celebrations

Las Candelas are lit every 1 February as the bells ring, with bonfires across the town and pantarujas representing evil spirits. San Marcos is celebrated on 25 April. In August, the patronal festivities honour Nuestra Señora de la Piedad and join the Feria de la Vendimia, with religious observances, wine culture, music and activities at the fairground.

Other cultural events

Festibarros, the folklore festival, the trade fair and events at Teatro Carolina Coronado broaden the annual cultural calendar. Cultural associations, brotherhoods, hospitality businesses, schools and municipal services organise and participate in these events at venues including Plaza de España, Palacio del Vino y la Aceituna and the Nuestra Señora de la Purificación parish church.
