Local festivals in Vilassar de Mar

The Festa Major de Sant Joan is usually celebrated over several days in June, culminating around the 24th. The arrival of the Pigat and Lucia characters aboard the sailing vessel Sant Ramon, the opening speech and the traditional hanging of the donkey figure Innocenci begin a programme that fills the streets, squares, church and seafront.

La Rierada and popular culture

La Rierada symbolically divides the town into Mestres d’Aixa, Pescadors-Contrabandistes and Gent Pagesa, three teams that participate in challenges and activities under their own colours. Street processions, a correfoc, giant figures, sardanes, havaneres, a sung fish auction and traditional-boat gatherings recall Vilassar de Mar’s seafaring and community identity.

Other celebrations

The Festes del Barato bring residents together from late July into early August. The cultural calendar also includes the Firobi puppet festival in October and the anniversary of the municipality’s foundation in November, organised with the participation of the Town Council and local associations.
