Local festivals in Canovelles
The Cans and Ovelles Festa Major is usually celebrated over several days in the last week of July. The Toc d'Inici, with bell ringing, folk-dance displays, a street parade and the opening address, begins a festival centred on Plaça de la Joventut, the Pista Polivalent and other municipal spaces.
Two groups and a participatory festival
Since 1999, the blue Cans and yellow Ovelles have represented a model without compulsory rivalry, allowing everyone to join activities organised by either group. Cultural and sports organisations, local clubs, residents and the Town Council arrange parades, giants, dancing, music, communal meals and established games such as the tortilla competition, Botifarra Amiga and Catxarrada.
Other celebrations: neighbourhood festivals and folk culture
During July, the Avinguda Canovelles, Pau Casals and Can Duran neighbourhoods hold their own local festivals with decorated streets, dancing and shared meals. The Aplec, Carnival, Sant Antoni Abat, the Pastorets and giant gatherings complete a calendar sustained by associations, schools, neighbourhood groups and folk-culture organisations.
