Local festivals in Villacañas

The Santísimo Cristo de la Viga festival, declared a Regional Tourist Festival in 1991, usually culminates on 1 May after a cycle beginning on 19 March. The Brotherhood maintains a tradition spanning more than five centuries in which seven Danzantes, the Porra bearer, the Alforjero and the Maestro perform stick, castanet and ribbon dances outside the officers' homes, at the Concepción chapel, the parish church and Glorieta del Prado.

Fair and Festivities

The Villacañas Fair is usually celebrated over several days in early August. The opening rocket in Plaza de España, fireworks, peña neckerchiefs, the parade of floats and groups, bull events, open-air dances and folklore turn the streets and Glorieta del Prado into gathering places for residents, those returning home and visitors.

Other events: San Roque

Around 16 August, the San Roque Brotherhood organises mass and the procession from the parish church to the chapel. The auction for the right to carry the image, the ritual circuit around the chapel, bell ringing, an auction of produce and small firework trees form a celebration maintained by the brotherhood, residents and local groups.
