Festivals in Madridejos
Discover the celebrations of Madridejos, bringing together the Cristo del Prado fair, the Valdehierro pilgrimage and the Quixote cultural days.
Local festivals in Madridejos
The Fair and Festivities in honour of Santísimo Cristo del Prado are usually celebrated from 13 to 17 September. Over five days, the Cristo chapel and promenade, fairground, streets and square host mass, a procession, music by the Municipal Symphonic Band, peñas and cultural activities. The Cristo stewardship, Town Council, associations and local services participate in the organisation.
Usual celebration of the Valdehierro pilgrimage
The Virgen de Valdehierro pilgrimage usually culminates on 1 May, with events beginning on the preceding Sunday. The image is carried about eighteen kilometres to the chapel in the hills; the grounds host outdoor mass, a market, rides and gatherings among the pine woods. Madridejos residents and visitors from the surrounding area take part in a tradition consolidated in the mid-20th century.
Other events: Quixote cultural days
In the last week of June, the Quixote cultural days bring several days of theatre, music, regional dancing, crafts, food and a Cervantes market to venues across the municipality. More than four hundred local participants, together with the Town Council and cultural groups, recreate Cervantes's world and present Madridejos folklore.
