Local festivals in Fuentesaúco

La Visitación and its Espantes are Fuentesaúco's most distinctive celebration. The local calendar also includes the Feria de Los Santos, Holy Week, Las Águedas, the Quintos festivities and Saucano Ausente.

Usual tradition

La Visitación is usually celebrated over several days around the first weekend of July. At Prado de la Reguera, horse riders and encerradores on foot take part in the Espantes: the riders try to lead the herd of bulls and steers out of the meadow while the people on foot form a human barrier to turn it back. The ritual takes place three times each day and is accompanied by street bull runs and events in the bullring. The Town Council traces this tradition back more than four centuries.

Local public holidays in 2026

The official Castile and León calendar declares 25 May, Virgen de la Antigua, and 6 July, Visitación, as Fuentesaúco's two local non-working public holidays in 2026. These days do not represent the full duration of the festivals.

Other events and cultural traditions

The Feria de Los Santos, held in early November, remains a meeting place and market for local produce, with bacalao con moje colorao as its characteristic dish. Residents, confraternities and associations also take part in the local Holy Week, Las Águedas, the Quintos festivities and Saucano Ausente in August.
