Local festivals in Ávila
Ávila's own festivals centre on San Segundo, the city's patron saint, and Santa Teresa de Jesús, its patroness. The celebrations combine worship, processions and community events at the cathedral, San Segundo chapel, the basilica and convent of La Santa, Mercado Chico and other venues within the historic centre.
Usual celebration
San Segundo's main day is 2 May, with several days of Mass, a procession between the cathedral and the shrine, music, folklore and sporting and family activities involving the Town Council, the brotherhood and local groups. The Santa Teresa festivities culminate on 15 October.
Other cultural events
Ávila's Holy Week features extensive participation by brotherhoods and confraternities through the churches and streets of the historic centre, while the Medieval Festival and the Lienzo Norte programme complete the annual cultural calendar.
