Local festivals in Gáldar

The Fiestas Mayores de Santiago de los Caballeros are usually celebrated over several weeks in July and culminate around the 25th, the patron saint’s feast day. The Sanctuary of Santiago Apóstol, Plaza de Santiago and the historic-centre streets host religious observances, music, folklore and community gatherings.

Pilgrimage-offering and neighbourhood participation

The pilgrimage-offering brings together carts and delegations from the municipality’s districts and neighbourhoods, carrying local produce to Santiago de los Caballeros. The route along Bajada de las Guayarminas and Calle Capitán Quesada ends in the square, where folklore groups, families and neighbourhood associations participate in the Baile de Taifa.

Other celebrations in the July cycle

The raising of the Jacobean flag and the ringing of bells announce the festive period. Celebrations for Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Santa Ana and San Joaquín, and San Cristóbal complete a calendar involving the parish, the Municipal Band, cultural groups and the Town Council.
