Local festivals in Sopela
The San Pedro festivities are usually celebrated over several days in late June in central Sopela. The cuadrilla groups' descent from Eleizalde Street, the opening address and the txupinazo rocket launch begin a programme featuring txosnas, a communal meal, pelota, bertsolaris, a dantza plaza, competitions and activities supported by the council, the Jai Batzordea festival committee and local associations.
Carmen in Larrabasterra
The Carmen festivities follow in mid-July in Larrabasterra, with Urgitxieta Square as one of their main settings. Cuadrilla groups, cultural organisations and residents take part in music, street theatre, dance, communal meals and food competitions that strengthen the neighbourhood's identity.
Santa Marina and other events
Santa Marina is celebrated on 20 July and completes the main summer festival cycle. The eve of San Juan, Euskal Jaia, Putxera Eguna and Sopela Kosta Fest broaden a yearly calendar combining Basque traditions, music, sport and coastal culture.
