Local festivals in Arrigorriaga

Madalenak are usually celebrated for six days around 22 July, the feast of Santa María Magdalena. Town Hall square, Teodosia Ortega park, the sports centre and the txosnas host the opening rocket, big-head figures, music, sport, popular meals and family activities. The Town Council, Festival Committee, local groups and numerous cultural, sports and neighbourhood associations prepare the programme.

Magdalena Day

On 22 July, the day begins with a dawn parade and kalejira by txistu players, accompanied by the distribution of mistela and small cakes around the town. The church hosts sung high mass and a floral offering to the patroness; concerts, txakoli, dancing and local-group gatherings then continue the celebration beneath the arcades and in the central squares.

Other celebrations: Abusu Cultural Week

For about nine days in April, the Abusu neighbourhood organises a cultural week in the Ibaizabal grounds, Ibaieder park and local community venues. A book fair, workshops, storytelling, a street parade, music, exhibitions, canoeing, a rice competition and a popular meal bring together Abusu Sarean, associations, schools, families and the Town Council.
