Local festivals in Ordizia

The usual celebration of the Santa Ana festivities lasts several days around 26 July and officially begins with the rocket launched from the Town Hall. Plaza Mayor, Buztuntza, Beti Alai fronton and streets across the town host drum parades, giants and big-headed figures, kalejiras, sport, music, community meals and children's activities. The Town Council, cuadrillas, cultural and sports associations, musicians, traders, families and volunteers organise and lead the events.

Santa Ana and the Santaneros

Santa Ana day brings together Mass, the soka-dantza, band music and the lively presence of the cuadrillas. On the following day, couples married during the year usually take part in the esku-dantza known as the Santaneros dance, alongside the market and the cuadrillas' procession. These dances, the drum parade and the cycling classic are among the celebration's most recognisable features.

Other events: Euskal Jaiak

Euskal Jaiak usually lasts about ten days in September. Its extraordinary fair fills central Ordizia with craft and food stalls, farmers, producers and visitors, and includes the competition for cheese made by shepherds from raw Latxa or Carranzana sheep's milk, followed by an auction of the winning cheese. The Town Council, local organisations, the farming sector, the Idiazabal Cheese Guild and associations collaborate in organising the festival.
