Local festivals in Bergara
The Pentekosteak are usually celebrated over several days around Pentecost and are Bergara's main festivities. Their date follows the movable religious calendar. Bitorianatxo descends into San Martín square to open the celebrations and rises again when they end. Between these moments, the town gathers for giants, music, dancing, pelota, cycle races and cuadrilla activities.
Dance and community gatherings
The traditional free-style dance competition and the cod competition between societies reflect two essential aspects of the festivities: Basque culture and community life. The giants, bands and local groups carry the celebration through the squares and streets and bring generations of Bergara residents together.
Other celebrations: Aratusteak and Erramu Zapatua
Carnival begins with the bear parade and continues with street processions, cuadrilla costumes and the revived Sorgin-dantza, alongside the traditional pellak pastries. On the Saturday before Palm Sunday, Erramu Zapatua fills the town square with a livestock and agricultural produce fair, accompanied by bertsolaris and a festive atmosphere.
