Local festivals in Andoain

The Sanjuanes are usually celebrated over several days around 24 June and centre on Goikoplaza and the surrounding streets. On the eve of the feast, the municipal soka-dantza and solstice bonfire bring the town together with txalaparta, bells, choral music and Basque dancing around the fire.

Axeri-dantza and popular culture

The Axeri-dantza is performed at midday on San Juan and is one of the festivities' most distinctive expressions. Bertsolaris, pelota, herri kirolak, drumming parades, txistularis and a craft fair complete celebrations sustained by the town's associations, cultural groups, societies and schools.

Other celebrations: Santakrutz and neighbourhood festivities

Santakrutz is celebrated in early May between Kale Nagusia and Zumea kalea with a children's opening address, the lowering of the flag, ezpata-dantza, drumming and popular races. Kaletxiki celebrates San Pedro in late June, Karrika maintains its drumming and summer dances, Etxeberrieta honours San Ignacio, and Goiburu preserves San Esteban, the Oilasko Jokua and its cider competition.
