Local festivals in Formentera
The Sant Jaume festivities are usually celebrated for several days around 25 July, Formentera Day. Sant Francesc church, Plaça de la Constitució and the village streets host mass, traditional dancing, music, theatre, and cultural and sporting gatherings. The Island Council, the Es Pastorells and Es Xacoters folk groups, performers, associations and residents take part in a celebration combining the patronal festival with the island's civic day.
Virgen del Carmen and the seafaring villages
On 16 July, the feast of the Mare de Déu del Carme, patron of the sea, brings celebrations to La Savina and Es Pujols. The harbours, squares and streets in both villages host religious events, music and community gatherings involving seafaring families, residents and visitors, with the support of local organisations and the Island Council.
Other celebrations across the island
The usual calendar continues with Sant Ferran on 30 May, Sant Joan on 24 June, Santa Maria on 5 August, Virgen del Pilar in El Pilar de la Mola on 12 October and Sant Francesc Xavier on 3 December. Churches, squares and neighbourhood venues in each village bring together traditional dancers, singers, instrumentalists and community activities involving Formentera's different settlements.
