Local festivals in Mairena del Alcor

The April Fair is usually celebrated over several days and opens Andalusia's fair season. Its origins lie in a concession granted in 1441 by King John II of Castile to encourage trade and supplies; over time, the livestock market gave way to a celebration of casetas, horses, music and community life at the Alcalde Antonio Delgado fairground.

Virgen de los Remedios Coronada

Mairena del Alcor's patron is celebrated around 8 September. The observances begin at the San Sebastián chapel and culminate in the transfer to the main church of Santa María de la Asunción, the principal service, procession and floral offering, accompanied by the brotherhood, parish, bands and residents.

Other events: Antonio Mairena Cante Jondo Festival

Between late August and early September, the festival dedicated to Antonio Mairena turns the town into a meeting place for flamenco performers and enthusiasts. Recognised as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia, it sustains the local relationship with cante jondo through performances and cultural activities.
