Local festivals in Lora del Río

The pilgrimage in honour of María Santísima de Setefilla, patron saint of Lora del Río, is usually held on 8 September at the sanctuary about thirteen kilometres from the town centre. Mass, the singing of the Salve and prayers before the image bring pilgrims, guilds, brotherhoods and local families together. The pilgrimage, together with the Virgen's ceremonial arrivals and departures, was recognised as a Festival of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia in 1999.

Lora del Río fair

The fair is usually celebrated for five days between late May and early June at the Alameda del Río fairground. Its roots date back to 1819, and the celebration retains the illuminated entrance, marquees, horse parade, sevillanas, music and gatherings among residents. The Town Council, associations and local groups take part in its organisation.

Other celebrations and outlying village festivals

The novena and Guilds' open-air dance precede the Setefilla feast day and fill the Asunción church and Plaza de España with devotion and community life. El Priorato honours San Isidro around 15 May with an offering and fair, while Setefilla and El Veredón del Acebuchal maintain their own popular festivities. Festival committees, residents' associations and municipal representatives sustain these multi-day celebrations.
