Local festivals in La Puebla del Río
The San Sebastián patronal festivities are usually celebrated for several days around 20 January. The chapel and parish church, Calle Larga, Plaza del Corpus Christi, bullring and Los Romeros municipal park host worship of the patron, the opening rocket, bull runs, music and street gatherings. The Town Council, parish, local clubs, bull-event participants and residents organise and share this winter celebration.
Corpus Christi fair and festivities
Between May and June, depending on the liturgical calendar, Corpus brings several days of fair celebrations and culminates in an evening procession, held continuously since the sixteenth century. The route through the town centre is decorated with pennants and rosemary branches, and the meeting of the Blessed Sacrament with the Virgen de la Granada distinguishes the end of the procession. Fair tents, horse riding, flamenco dress, music and sports fill the fairground with the participation of brotherhoods, associations, riders, families and the Town Council.
Other celebrations
Holy Week, the pilgrimage to El Rocío, the Three Kings parade and festivities in the outlying settlements broaden the cultural and religious calendar. Brotherhoods, equestrian groups, local bodies and residents maintain processions, pilgrimages, community gatherings and activities linked to the landscapes of the Guadalquivir and Doñana.
