Local festivals in Bollullos de la Mitación

The usual celebration of the Fair and Patronal Festivities of Santa María de Cuatrovitas occupies several days in the third week of September. The fairground, Municipal Marquee, Avenida de la Constitución and other town-centre venues host the proclamation, religious events, marquees, music, dancing, fire bulls and community gatherings. The Town Council, Cuatrovitas Brotherhood, marquee groups, local organisations, fairground operators and residents sustain the celebration.

Cuatrovitas pilgrimage

On the fourth Sunday in October, the Virgin returns from San Martín de Tours parish church to the Cuatrovitas chapel. After the pilgrims' mass, the procession follows the route through olive groves and pine woods with riders, horse-drawn carriages and decorated carts. The carretas de pique, painstakingly covered with flowers and cut paper, are among the most distinctive features of a tradition documented since the brotherhood was founded in 1595.

Other events: Santiago and Cuatrovitas traditions

The Cuatrovitas cycle includes the Noche de los Garbanzos on the weekend before 25 July and the Coming of the Virgin on the feast of Santiago. Women bearers accompany the image from the chapel to the town, while the Brotherhood, families, groups of friends and municipal services take part in the route and community gatherings linked to the patron.
