Local festivals in Nerja

The Nerja Fair is usually celebrated over several days in October in honour of the Virgen de las Angustias and San Miguel Arcángel. The fairground and town centre host the opening speech, music, marquees, rides, parades and observances dedicated to the patron saints.

Other celebrations: San Isidro pilgrimage

Around 15 May, carts, horse riders, groups and associations join the San Isidro pilgrimage. The celebration passes through the streets before heading to the chapel beside Nerja Cave, with traditional dress, music and community gathering areas.

Virgen del Carmen

The seafaring festival culminates every 16 July with a land and sea procession. The image leaves El Salvador church, reaches La Torrecilla beach and boards a vessel to travel along the coast before landing at Calahonda; the Nuestra Señora del Carmen brotherhood and the Town Council support the religious, cultural and popular events.
