Local festivals in Álora

The Álora Fair is usually celebrated between late July and early August. The daytime fair fills Plaza Fuente Arriba with stalls run by brotherhoods, associations and local businesses, while the evening fairground hosts the municipal marquee, rides, music and sporting events. The Cantes de la Trilla competition maintains the celebration's connection with local flamenco.

Other celebrations: Virgen de Flores pilgrimage

In September, the patron is brought down from the Convento de Flores to the Church of La Encarnación for the novena. On the Sunday after 8 September, floats, carts, horses and pilgrims on foot accompany the Virgen de Flores back to her convent, about two kilometres from the town centre.

Holy Week and the Despedía

On Good Friday morning, Jesús Nazareno de las Torres and the Virgen de los Dolores meet in Plaza Baja. Their bearers perform three simultaneous kneeling bows during the Despedía, a gesture symbolising the farewell between mother and son and the most distinctive moment of Álora's Holy Week.
