Local festivals in Villacarrillo

Corpus Christi is usually celebrated as the municipality's longest-standing tradition, with more than six and a half centuries of history. Streets and squares are decorated with plants, broom and carpets of flowers and coloured sawdust for the evening procession. Residents prepare the decorations for days beforehand, while the Corpus proclamation and an established poetry tradition accompany the festival. The Andalusian regional government listed it as an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2021.

Fair and patronal festivities

The fair is usually held from 9 to 16 September in honour of the Santísimo Cristo de la Vera-Cruz and Nuestra Señora del Rosario, with the 14th as its main day. Its roots lie in an old trading and livestock fair. Street bull runs documented since the 18th century take place alongside evening dances, concerts and cultural and sporting activities organised by the Town Council.

Other celebrations: patron saints and Holy Week

On 3 May, the town commemorates the arrival of the Cristo de la Vera-Cruz, while the Virgen del Rosario is honoured on 7 October. Holy Week, rooted in the 16th century, brings brotherhoods and residents together in processions leaving from the Asunción and San Francisco parish churches; its distinctive customs include the Cantes de Pasión sung alongside Jesús Nazareno.
