Local festivals in Lepe

The Romería de la Bella pilgrimage and the patronal celebrations of the Virgen de la Bella and San Roque shape Lepe's festival calendar. The pilgrimage is held on the second weekend in May, following the route from Santo Domingo de Guzmán to the chapel at Cabezo de la Bella, beside El Terrón; the patronal festivities usually take place around 15 and 16 August.

Usual celebration

A flower offering opens the pilgrimage's main events. On Saturday, the Virgin leaves the parish church with pilgrims, horse riders and carriages, passing Cruz Primera and El Terrón harbour before reaching the chapel, where the Pendón banner is auctioned. Sunday brings the pilgrims' Mass and torchlit rosary, and the image returns to Lepe on Monday. The Hermandad Matriz, its affiliated brotherhoods, drummers, choirs and local residents sustain a celebration recognised as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia.

Other events

The patronal celebrations of the Virgen de la Bella and San Roque bring religious events, music and community gatherings to the town centre around 15 and 16 August. The municipal calendar for Lepe, La Antilla and El Terrón adds cultural and festive activities throughout the year.
