Local festivals in Fuente Palmera
The Fuente Palmera Colony Royal Fair is usually celebrated for four days in the second half of August. Plaza Real, the fairground, municipal marquee and streets of the main settlement host an opening speech, parades, music, dancing, competitions, food gatherings and fairground attractions. The Town Council, associations, peñas, local businesses, families and residents from the Colony's different villages take part in the organisation.
Usual celebration of Colony Day
Around 5 July, Colony Day is a one-day commemoration of Fuente Palmera's foundation in 1767 as part of the New Settlements project. Plaza Real and other municipal venues host civic events, culture, music and community gatherings, with participation by the Town Council, schools, associations and residents of the ten colonial settlements.
Other celebrations: San Isidro and village fairs
In May, the San Isidro Labrador pilgrimage usually brings pilgrims from El Villar and other villages together for a weekend along rural tracks and at Los Arroyones, with religious services, decorated carts, music and community gatherings. The municipal calendar also includes the fairs of Ochavillo del Río, La Herrería, Villalón, Silillos, Cañada del Rabadán, Peñalosa and other villages, organised by the Town Council, local councils, brotherhoods and residents' associations.
